Hittite Microwave RoHS Compliant Program

Hittite Microwave has met the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) European Union Directive and has eliminated halogen / antimony compounds from all of our plastic packaged products and has eliminated halogen / antimony compounds and lead (Pb) from our "E" series of plastic packaged products. Products offered as bare die (chips) or as ceramic based packages have always been RoHS compliant. Hittite offers over 950 RoHS or ROHS-5 Compliant RFIC & MMIC based standard catalog products and will continue to offer the original non-RoHS versions of our plastic packaged products.

Hittite Microwave Corporation Reach Letter

1. RoHS Compliant "E" (Environmentally Friendly) Product Line Qualification & Release Status:

All of Hittite Microwave's plastic package types are qualified for both RoHS and JEDEC Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) 1 (260 degC peak temperature) and their related products are released to production: LP2E, LP3E, LP4E, LP4BE, LP4CE, LP5E, LP6E, LP6CE, MP86E, MS8GE, MS10GE, QS24E, QS16E, QS16GE, S8E, SC70E, S8GE, SOT26E & SOT89E. Data sheets (specific to the RoHS requirement) for each of these products are released.

2. Marking & Labeling of RoHS Compliant "E" Products:

a. Part Number Designator & Marking for RoHS: Affected products are designated as RoHS Compliant in our system, web site, data sheets and on our shipping material with an "E"suffix, for example:

a.1. HMCxxxLP4E - bulk quantity product
a.2. HMCxxxLP4ETR - tape & reel product

b. Part Number Marking for RoHS: Effected products are physically marked as RoHS Compliant as follows: Currently all Hittite products have an abbreviated part number physically marked on the top side of the package which consists of the letter "H" followed by the first 3 digits of the part number, Hxxx. Most "E" parts will be identified by a line drawn underneath the abbreviated part number, Hxxx. The "E" versions of the SOT26 products are the only exception and they will be marked with the "E" at the end of the numerical part number, 221E.

c. Labeling and Shipping Container Marking: In addition to the "E" suffix on the part number (as appropriate) the product container labeling will show a "Pb" in a circle with a line through it to indicate RoHS Compliant product. There will also be a logo showing a "check mark" next to RoHS.

3. "E" Product Lead Plating Material & Reflow Process Compatibility:

The lead plating of our "E" products is 100% matte tin (Sn) over copper alloy and is backwards compatible with the current standard Tin Lead (SnPb) lower temperature solders as well as future higher temperature "Pb free" solders (260°C reflow temperature). The SN plating is a minimum of 10 um thick and is anneale at 150°C for one hour.

4. “E” Product Form, Fit & Function:

Our RoHS Compliant "E" products are form, fit & functional replacements for their related, released non-RoHS Hittite Microwave product.

5. Products that have always been compliant to the RoHS Directive:

Products offered as bare die (chips) or as ceramic based packages (C8, G7, G8, G16 LC3, LC3B, LC3C, LC4, LC4B, LC5, LH250, LH5, LM1, LM3, LM3B, LM3C, P7) have always been RoHS compliant. These are released and available from stock and do not require an “E” RoHS compliant part number suffix designator.

6. Plastic Packaged Products Compliant with RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC Annex Paragraph 7 "Exemptions for Lead in Solder"

The following products manufactured by Hittite Microwave are in compliance with Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the council of 27 January 2003 on the restriction and use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronics equipment (RoHS Directives) with "Exemptions for Lead in Solder" per the Directive’s Annex Paragraph 7 applied. All Lead (Pb) in our devices is either in the form of high temperature internal die bonding solder and/or in the form of SnPb Solder Lead Plating finish.

The following products are RoHS-5 compliant with this exemption:

a. Hittite's non-"E" plastic packaged products. These products are also qualified for JEDEC Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) 1 (235 °C peak temperature) and their related products are released to production: LP2, LP3, LP4, LP4C, LP5, LP6, MP86, MS8G, MS10G, QS24, QS16, QS16G, S8, SC70, S8G, SOT26 & ST89.

b. Hittite's connectorized modules such as the HMC-Cxxx series are fully RoHS compliant however, they may contain less than 1000ppm of lead (Pb).

c. The HMC-C008, HMC-C012, HMC-C013 & HMC-C037 contain lead (Pb) and are RoHS-5 compliant.
