Hittite Microwave Corporation, the world class supplier of complete MMIC based solutions for communication & military markets, has expanded its Limiting Amplifier Product Line to include two new SMT packaged products which are designed to support data transmission rates up to 43 Gbps, and can operate over a wide range of input voltage levels while providing a constant-level differential output voltage swing. Ideal for meeting the rigorous requirements of 100 GbE/100 Gbps Long Haul receivers and 40 Gbps QPSK & DQPSK receivers, the HMC865LC3C and the HMC866LC3C also function well as gain blocks for broadband test & measurement applications.

The HMC865LC3C and the HMC866LC3C are Limiting Amplifiers which are designed to support up to 43 Gbps operation, feature 26.5 GHz 3 dB bandwidth, and provide up to 30 dB of differential gain. Output voltage swings are adjustable from 250 mVp-p to 800 mVp-p differential by using a VAC analog control input, while additive RMS jitter is less than 300 fs for 32 Gbps operation.

The HMC865LC3C features an internal DC offset correction circuit which provides 10 mVp-p differential input sensitivity, while the HMC866LC3C features 20 mVp-p differential input sensitivity, and allows for external offset correction to both inputs and outputs. Ideal for optical transport equipment applications, both the HMC865LC3C and the HMC866LC3C exhibit very fast rise and fall times of 13 ps at 32 Gbps, and consume less than 90 mA from a +3.3 V supply.

All input/output RF signals of the HMC865LC3C and the HMC866LC3C are terminated with 50 Ohms to +3.3 V on-chip, and may be either AC or DC coupled. The outputs of these amplifiers support single-ended or differential operation, and may be connected directly to a 50 Ohm terminated system referenced to +3.3 V; DC blocking capacitors may be used if the terminating system is 50 Ohms to a non +3.3 V supply.

Housed in ceramic, RoHS compliant, 3x3 mm SMT packages, the HMC865LC3C and the HMC866LC3C complement the previously released HMC750LP4E Limiting Amplifier, and are specified for operation from -40 ºC to +85 ºC.
